Receiving Notifications
Automatically receiving notifications of adverse results lets WaterTrax clients sleep at night. They know that they will not miss any event that needs their attention. WaterTrax clients use the time that they save from not having to manually screen every test result or reading for other important tasks.

Bob Schoech, Principal Utility Program Supervisor, appreciates the automatic notification he receives when a water quality result is outside the utility’s normal operating range, especially the emails that reach him wherever he is. “We try to be diligent,” he says, “yet it can be difficult to manually screen water quality results against the MCLs when there is so much data to deal with.” “I now know immediately when a sample might be close to the MCL, and being able to monitor this effortlessly is important to us. Knowing that I’m not missing any exceedance helps me sleep at night. With WaterTrax, we’ve not only significantly improved our ability to monitor the health of our wells, but also our ability to respond if and when necessary.”
San Jose Water Company
"With over 100 wells in our system, the time it took to respond to any problems was concerning." says Andy Grere, Manager of Water Quality and Operations. "With WaterTrax, we now have real-time data with email notification on the data. We have eliminated the lag-time for receiving lab results and now take immediate action on any notifications received. This was an important feature that attracted me to the WaterTrax product."
Mr. Gere says he set up the WaterTrax alerting function to notify multiple parties within his department when there was an abnormal test result. "I have also written a set of instructions with the appropriate course of action that is sent out with each notification," he adds. "This way the accountability is shared and no test goes unnoticed. We have eliminated the occurrence of missed phone calls from laboratories or unread messages in the inbox." For Mr. Gere and his staff real-time data, email notifications, and historical data trending are all of great importance. But they have also discovered the usefulness of the WaterTrax Parameter Pages as an educational tool. Upon receipt of a notification, the operations supervisors at the San Jose Water Company look up the analyte in the WaterTrax Parameter Pages. Underlying the WaterTrax Parameter Pages is an extensive database of scientific information that includes a description and health implications for all the parameters in the Safe Drinking Water Act and more.
He has found that with the WaterTrax system, he can remain involved in daily operations without having to spend extensive time on the data management activities. "I have a more complete picture of our entire system. It has given me time to take on new responsibilities without losing sight of daily operations." He adds: "Our commitment to the public is 100 per cent compliance of the Safe Drinking Water Act. With WaterTrax we have an improved data management system with shared responsibility and accountability, enhanced water quality education for our employees, and improved decision-making. By using this service, we continue to meet and surpass our commitment to the public."

Park Water
"Alerts on exceedances are tied to e-mail notices. This has become very important to us because it allows us to respond more rapidly to potential problems in our water quality," says Gary Lynch, Vice-President, Water Quality. He singled out this important feature that sold the company on WaterTrax.
WaterTrax made it easier for Park Water to respond to positive field tests on physical parameters such as turbidity. Close monitoring of color discrepancies could point to problems of a more serious nature.

"The alert notifications are a critically important to stay on top of requirements. We often set our own standards beyond those required by the Province in order to continuously improve our water quality program," says Shawn Sutherland, Director of Transportation and Civic Works.

“Because WaterTrax is web-based it allows SaskWater staff easy access to information and the ability to collaborate on system operation,” says Darin Orb, Senior Technologist. “It allows me to always be on top of my water quality test results – even when I’m traveling.”
The system’s alert function gives him the confidence to leave the office without worrying that a danger signal may be overlooked in his absence. “Since several of us are on WaterTrax,” he says, “I can be assured that nothing will be missed.”
