Generating Reports

Manual reporting processes make it increasingly difficult to keep up with the demand for more and more mandatory and ad-hoc water and wastewater reporting.

WaterTrax clients generate up-to-date reports quickly and easily without running around to collect data for the report from filing cabinets, spreadsheets, SCADA systems, or their colleagues.

Whether they are small municipalities like Castlegar, big cities like Halifax, or private companies like California’s Park Water, WaterTrax clients are taking advantage of the easy to use report generation feature.

Park Water

Park Water’s contract and in-house labs perform more than 2,500 tests every month. The company submits monthly reports to California and Montana state regulators — a requirement that has become less of a chore with on-time lab data transfers and WaterTrax reporting.

"We get on top of the results faster than even by telephone. The transfer of information is almost automatic," which is one of the most important features that sold the company on WaterTrax, according to Gary Lynch, Vice-President Water Quality.

"We provide more information in a much better, nicer format," says Mr. Lynch. "The software even calculates our ranges and averages. And we don’t need to sweat meeting those reporting deadlines."

Now they are able to produce reports easily from a logical and well-organized archive to respond to potential inspections, customer complaints or freedom of information requests.

City Of Castlegar

"The reporting function has been tremendously important to the City of Castlegar. We post reports monthly on the City's website, provide reports to the Drinking Water Officer at the Health Authority, and provide various reports to keep City Council up to date."

And when it comes to usability, Mr. Sutherland states, "Our staff has discovered that the Service is extremely easy to use. The Watertrax support team has consistently stayed involved to ensure the product is doing everything and more than we expected of it. It is a very reasonable cost to pay for storage, security and extraction of critical data".

CH2M HILL

During the pilot study, laboratory reports were received electronically, eliminating all manual handling of the results. Measurements taken on-site were instantly correlated with lab results as they were entered through web forms. As a result, the project team had up-to-date and accurate information on performance at all times and from any location, allowing easy assessment of the monitoring and operating plan.

By streamlining and automating the collection and storage of performance data, CH2M HILL was able to fully focus on the meaning of the collected information and determine the optimal process solution for the Region of Peel. Juliann Sladic, CH2M HILL's pilot study manager, says that "The paper trail generated by the pilot study was completely managed within WaterTrax, saving an enormous amount of time in manual data manipulation. We will no doubt use the Service on future pilot projects."

Halifax Regional Water Commission

When a customer comes in with questions about their water "I can provide an answer right away - an actual number right there and then," says Reid Campbell, Manager of Plant Operations.

By way of example, he relates that one of their private system clients wanted to see a summary of water quality testing. After just five minutes the client had a full report on the quality of water in the system. He left happy and secure knowing that the system's water quality met the standards, and with evidence of the Water Commissions' commitment to professional management in-hand.

City of Kelowna

"I no longer feel like I'm on a never-ending treadmill of water quality data reporting," says Marianne Toma, Kelowna's Water Quality Technician. Administrative time saved is spent on value-added tasks.

"We no longer have to waste time making reports presentable," says Kelowna's Pump Operations Supervisor, Adrian Weaden. "WaterTrax has adequate reports and the ability to transfer to Excel if we want to dress them up."

Kelowna has dramatically cut the cost of water quality information management and reporting with WaterTrax. But, perhaps more importantly, mundane administrative tasks have been reduced and record-keeping practices improved, reflecting Kelowna's progressive outlook.

Town of Midland

As Manager of the Water and Waste Water Operations, Tim Toole relies on the service primarily to create the reports as and when he needs them. This year he expects to be able to generate his annual report with much less effort. “We were spending hours and hours looking for the information in five different places,” he says. “It was time to have one central database... now that answer is at my fingertips.

Town of Newmarket

Until a year ago, the Town of Newmarket, Ontario had no data management system other than clerical filing of test results. Producing reports or viewing specific results was eating up far too much staff time. Now with WaterTrax, reports are generated in seconds.

"The Ontario Ministry of the Environment requires a report of minimum and maximum readings for test results," says Bill Wilson, Water and Wastewater Supervisor. "I used to spend hours thumbing through pages and pages of historical data in order to compile quarterly and yearly reports."

"It gives us the means to provide information with the push of a button. It is easy to find a selected result or group of results without sifting through hundreds of pages of information. I can quickly organize data by selecting a range of dates, test parameters or specific sample locations and print a report of the results."

The time savings were remarkable. "Simply by logging onto the service, I have immediate access to all of my water quality data. Formatting, trending, and analyzing these data is now a simple task. Furthermore, the WaterTrax service identifies any clerical errors in data entry immediately. Our reports have greater accuracy than ever before."
